Novel Engineering Book Club

- Derived from Tuft University’s course Novel Engineering this is a book club designed to enhance literacy, critical thinking, design and STEM skills.During this is an eight-week course we will read the novel The Night Diary, by Veera Hiranandani. The story follows a young girl Nisha in 1947 India. It is newly independent of British rule, after it has been separated into two countries: Pakistan and India. The divide has created much tension between Hindus and Muslims and hundreds of thousands are killed crossing borders. Half-Muslim, half-Hindu twelve-year-old Nisha doesn’t know where she belongs or what her country is anymore.As a class we will identify problems that appear throughout the story and collaboratively invent innovative solutions to assist Nisha along her journey to her new home.
