3 Tested STEM Lessons for Distant Learning

3 Tested STEM Lessons for Distant Learning

Teachers are preparing to transition to hybrid learning, social distant learning and E-learning scenarios for the upcoming school year. Over the last two months I’ve been teaching STEM, robotics, coding and engineering class online to students ages 4-12. I decided to start compiling some great activities with links to the authors and mentioning any tweaks I made so the lessons worked virtually.

Build a Tower for Rapunzel

I purchased Jenny LaRocque’s Fairy Tale STEM well over a year ago. It’s been a huge hit in my classroom. This week I tried it online with my Kinder-STEM group adding the constraint of having to have a door for Rapunzel to enter and exit from.

I started the class off with the  read aloud below. I teach in India so the representation was much appreciated.

Build a Bridge for the Three Billy Goats Gruff

This lesson has been done everywhere. The only tweak I made for it to work virtually was allow them to use whatever materials they wanted to. I was pretty happy with the results.

Antartica Shelters

I’m obsessed with Vivify STEM. I heard them speak at STEM Con 2020 and have been buying from their TpT store ever since.

This was so fun! The students were over the moon to see their shelters actually work at home!
